The Manchester College launches Aldi Apprenticeships Scheme

In conjunction with SkillSmart Retail and the National Skills Academy for Retail, The Manchester College Retail Skills Shop has formed a partnership with international retailer Aldi, which will see a number of apprentices given the opportunity to work towards a career in retail.

The Aldi Apprenticeship Scheme is open to young people who have left school, or will be leaving this summer, and offers the chance to work for the retailer while gaining the skills needed to get ahead in the sector.

As well as financial benefits, young people will get the opportunity to learn efficient business practices and models that are changing the way people shop. The Manchester College is now actively recruiting young people with a desire for retail and an enthusiasm for learning to be part of the trial.

Riccy Longden, assistant principal responsible for Apprenticeships, said: ‘At The Manchester College we are proud to work with Aldi who are a major international brand. We work with a number of large employers on our retail Apprenticeships but this is a major step forward in establishing ourselves as industry leaders.

Matthew Speight, a director of Aldi in the north west said: ‘Aldi is keen to ensure the success of this pilot and are confident apprenticeships will provide our store managers of the future. We also recognise the strength of The Manchester College in helping us achieve our aims.’
